Unity 101 – Unity Professional Developer Training

Class Description
This 5-day structured, hands-on instructor-led class uses project-based exercise files from the official Unity Courseware. Participants will learn by doing labs as they build a working game with Unity from the ground up. This class focuses on the foundational skills essential to development with Unity .  Participants develop an end-to-end understanding of production with Unity Professional as they build Zombie Toys, a third-person, 3D, survival arcade game. Participants learn hands-on as they perform all required development tasks – from importing assets, to scripting behavior, building FX attacks, and publishing.

Course Benefits
Learn hands-on as you build a working game from the ground up – all the way from project planning and documentation through to publishing to multiple platforms and devices.

  • Become familiar with the Unity engine, the critical parts of the Unity editor and Unity project development workflow best practices.
  • Learn how to create Game Objects (including components, properties and prefabs), define scene structure, import Assets, and work with Sprites.
  • Understand Unity’s project management features (including metadata, tags and layers) and organize Unity projects.
  • Create materials and discover best practices for 3D content creation.
  • Understand Rigidbodies, colliders, how they work, and how to integrate them.
  • Analyze lighting tools and processes and develop the look and mood of a Unity scene.
  • Enhance the visual quality of lighting while optimizing the look of a scene.
  • Explore character animation tools and learn the process of creating animations for use in game levels or state machines.
  • Understand animation import options and learn how to manage animation data in Unity projects.
  • Dive into programming as Students learn terms, examine code, identify script types, and start writing code.
  • Learn the basics of navigation, including pathfinding and obstacle avoidance, and practice baking a Navigation Mesh into a Unity project.
  • Create players and allies and learn how to control their behavior in a Unity project.
  • Create enemies, design their behavior, and learn how to manage them in a Unity game.
  • Build four unique player attacks and learn how to manage multiple particle systems in a Unity project.
  • Bring audio into a Unity project, mix audio components, and implement audio effects.
  • Configure Unity cameras and refine player selection behaviors.
  • Get to know the different UI components and design a user interface for a Unity project.
  • Understand the Unity build process, explore Unity Cloud Build options, and configure build settings.
  • Learn about mobile platforms, Unity deployment options, and how to optimize Unity settings for mobile publishing.
  • Learn to target multiple platforms which includes mobile devices, web browsers, Windows, Mac and Linux desktops, and consoles.

Who Should Attend
This class offers beginners a guided, progressive course of study that covers key concepts and skills needed for Unity design and coding. Those with more experience can use this class to enhance their skills, or fill in any gaps in knowledge. It’s a great solution for any individual or organization looking for a structured class to thoroughly master Unity development. The project is oriented around game development in Unity but the skills mastered area appropriate for any developer using Unity for both game and non-game applications including architectural walkthroughs, virtual reality applications (Oculus Rift, Gear VR. HTC Vibe, etc.), augmented reality applications (Microsoft Hololens), training and educational simulations/demonstrations, medical training, military and industrial simulation, gambling applications like slots and e-graming, product visualization, and marketing/advertising. Most Unity projects are game-like to some degree, in that they make use of unity’s ability to render mesh-based 3d or 2d graphics very fast using the GPU, and often the built-in physics so the course material uses development of a quality game project as the scenario for teaching necessary Unity skills.

Suggested Prerequisites

  • No prior game development or programming experience is required to take this class, but passing the Unity certification eams will require real-world experience with Unity.
  • Basic understanding of geometry and math (high school level)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Some previous exposure to Unity is ideal, but not required.
  • Some previous JavaScript experience is ideal, but not required.
